This recent addition Towy stable has proved to be enormously popular, received by buyers and traders alike with great enthusiasm. Whatever the weather, visitors seem to enjoy hunting for bargains in the sunshine or showers, and even the bitter cold of December event does not deter the dedicated collectors.
Regular slots in April and July are now firmly fixed in the Antiques event calendar and a post-Christmas Bank Holiday date has also been added. Many regular dealers book for the whole year and, so far, each event has been bigger than the last.
Many dealers see this as a great opportunity to clear old stock at competitive prices; others just seem to know exactly what their customers will want. However, anyone is welcome whatever they have to sell – whether the contents of the garage or attic – it all adds to the fun! Visitors with a nose for a bargain enjoy the hunt, never knowing what they will find, but knowing for sure that it is not likely to break the bank.
The Flea Market was designed as a “no frills” event in order to keep costs to the dealers at a minimum and there is no restriction on the type or quality of stock. The result is a glorious mixture of antiques, bygones, and simply second hand, with the occasional stall selling crafts, plants and sometimes locally produced food! Inside stands must be pre-booked and, while outside pitches can be taken up on the day (just turn up at 7.30am) it is cheaper to pre-book these.
The Carmarthen Antiques & Flea Market opens from 10am – 4pm for buyers and admission is £3.50 for adults. Parking is free and refreshments are available.
